The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 and Redmi Note 8 Pro was announced yesterday, and the are the successors of the popular Redmi Note 7 series. While the Redmi Note 8 is an affordable phone with decent specs, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro is the first officially announced smartphone in the world to come with a 64MP camera. Let me reveal to you some details about the two new smartphones from Xiaomi.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8
The Redmi Note 8 runs on Snapdragon 665 chipset, based on the 11nm process. The chipset has eight Kryo 260 cores – four of them clocked at 2.2GHz, while the others clocked at 1.8GHz.

Looking at the camera department, the Redmi Note 8 came with four shooters – 48MP main camera with the latest Samsung ISOCELL GM2 sensor, 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, 2MP dedicated macro camera, and a 2MP depth sensor. At the front you will find a 13MP selfie camera which is housed by the notch.
The Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 comes with a 6.3 inch LCD screen with Full HD+ resolution – no OLED for affordable series, meaning the fingerprint scanner will stay on the back and not under the display. Other specs of the phone includes; 4000mAh battery with 18W charging speeds and USB-C port, flanked by a 3.5mm audio jack.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Price and Availability
The Redmi Note 8 price will start at CNY999 ($140/€125) for the 4/64 GB option. There are two more choices, though – 6/64 GB for CNY1,199 ($167/€150) and 6/128 GB for CNY1,399 ($195/€175). It will be available in Black, White, and Dream Blue colours.

Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro
Even though other phone manufacturers tried to cover this device with a casual half-launch yesterday, the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro remains the first officially announced smartphone to come with a 64MP camera. It has the Samsung ISOCELL Bright GW1 sensor, launched the same time as the GM2 in the Redmi Note 8 and brings quad-binning pixel technology.
The Redmi Note 8 Pro display is 6.53 inch in diagonal with an LCD panel and Full HD+ resolution. The phone has small bezels, with bottom one being just 4.2mm thick. You can easily differentiate the Redmi Note 8 Pro from the Redmi Note 8 – it has its four cameras arranged vertically in the middle of the panel. The 64MP camera is accompanied by the same 8MP ultra-wide + 2MP depth + 2MP macro combo as seen in the Redmi Note 8. The selfie camera is accommodated in the notch and it is 20MP with plenty of AI features and scene recognition options.
Under the hood, the Redmi Note 8 Pro comes with Mediatek Helio G90T, becoming the first smartphone to come with the new SoC platform. It also comes with 6/8GB of RAM and 64/128GB storage. The battery is 4500mAh and has 18W fast charging support.
The phone is the first phone of the sub-brand to arrive with a liquid cooling chamber to offset the expected heating from the gaming chipset. In order to provide seamless gaming, there is also the feature to connect both to Wi-Fi and 4G.
Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro Price and Availability
The Redmi Note 8 Pro price starts at CNY1,399 ($195/€175) for the 6/64 GB option and goes as high as CNY1,799 ($250/€225) for the 8/128 GB variant. The phone will be available in three colours – White, Green, and Black.
